This month’s Museum After Hours celebrates the kick-off of the 16th Annual Mālama Hāloa Kalo Festival & Symposium and the opening of the Museum’s newest exhibition Corned Beef & Kalo, which brings together two iconic works of contemporary art to consider how agricultural subsistence, environment sustainability, and everyday life intertwine.
In collaboration with Ka Papa Loʻi ʻO Kānewai and Ka Papa Loʻi ʻO Punaluʻu, Bishop Museum presents the 16th Annual Mālama Hāloa Kalo Festival & Symposium and celebrates the kalo Piʻialiʻi and ʻEleʻele Mākoko. To kick off the festival and symposium, enjoy live music by Kainani Kahaunaele, presentations by the Edith Kanakaʻole Foundation and Uncle Calvin Hoe, and Corned Beef & Kalo gallery tours led by artist Bernice Akamine and Healoha Johnston, Curator for Hawaiʻi and Pacific Arts and Culture.
