Journey to the Sun with the Parker Solar Probe

Sunday, November 3, 2024

Join us for a special presentation highlighting the Parker Solar Probe, featuring guests from John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory:

  • Nour Rawafi, Astrophysicist and Project Scientist
  • Sanae Kubota, Space Systems Engineer

The Parker Solar Probe (PSP), launched in 2018, has been closely orbiting the Sun, our star, studying its magnetic field, solar wind, and beyond. In 2021, the PSP became the first spacecraft to “touch” the sun, reaching the Sun’s outer atmosphere.

This presentation from PSP mission staff will follow the trajectory of the probe from launch to its closest approach to the Sun and celebrate the upcoming milestone of its final Venus flyby, on November 6. This gravitational assist will allow PSP to make its closest approach to the Sun later this year, under 4 million miles from the solar surface, on December 24.

This event is part of the solar-themed programs and events for Sun Day Sundae Sunday on Sunday, November 3, 2024, from 11am – 3pm.

The event is finished.
