| Hawaiian Name:
Kapuhili Common Name: Oval Butterflyfish Distribution: Central and western Pacific |
| Remarks: Like the Lined Butterflyfish, this species is often found on calm coral reefs in bays, but is seldom seen on the open reefs. Until recently, it was known by ichthyologists as Chaetodon trifasciatus, from throughout the Indo-Pacific. However, it was discovered that there are two different species; the true Chaetodon trifasciatus is restricted to the Indian Ocean, and the species in the Pacific is now called Chaetodon lunulatus. |
