BISHOP MUSEUM SEEKS SCIENCE BUFFS FOR SCIENCE ADVENTURE CENTER VOLUNTEER EXHIBIT GUIDE TEAM
HONOLULU – Bishop Museum is seeking outgoing, enthusiastic individuals to become part of its new Science Adventure Volunteer Exhibit Guide Team. The Exhibit Guide program is a rewarding experience that allows volunteers to learn about Hawai‘i’s natural and cultural history while learning styles and teaching techniques for all ages. Volunteers will be able to share the knowledge they learn with Museum visitors from around the world through Science Adventure Center tours, school programs, and demonstration stations.
The first Volunteer Exhibit Guide five-week training session will take place from April 18 through May 18, 2006 on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Bishop Museum . Once the training is completed, volunteers will be scheduled for a 4-hour shift once a week. Shifts are flexible and can be worked around vacation and work schedules.
Karen Awong, a Science Adventure Volunteer on Sunday mornings has had a good time interacting with guests on the Exhibit Guide Team. “I enjoy volunteering in the Science Adventure Center and I feel that my contribution of service and working with the public helps to keep the Museum going,” said Awong. “It also adds to the experience for the visitor.”
If you enjoy learning and sharing what you have learned with others please join the Bishop Museum Science Adventure Center Volunteer Exhibit Guide Team. Volunteers must be 15 years or older, but 9–14 year-old science buffs may volunteer if they bring along an adult.
